SERVICE AREA: We offer services in Greater Victoria, and as far north as Duncan and Sooke. Travel time and mileage apply.

We do not offer services on the Gulf Islands, Nanaimo, Comox Valley, Tofino, or the Lower Mainland. 

Service Styles

As service needs vary from event to event, based on the venue, the complexity of the menu and the itinerary of the event, service costs are estimated separately from menu cost. Servers are billed by the hour and must be booked for a minimum of three hours. Travel time, mileage, stat holiday, overtime and late night fees apply. 

Buffet

Guests serve themselves from a central buffet table. Buffets require 1 server for every 40-45 guests, in addition to any cooking staff required. Buffets can be offered in practically all venues.

Family Style

Service merges buffet and plated to create a social, while sophisticated service. Guests remain seated and large ‘family’ style platters are delivered to the table and shared among guests – usually about 8 guests per platter. Depending on the complexity of your event you can expect to require one server for approximately 20-30 guests, in addition to cooking staff. Family service is not available in all venues and maximum guest numbers apply.

Plated

Plated service is similar to what you might expect in a restaurant, with servers bringing food to your table. Plated dinner meal selections are pre-ordered. Plated menus require one server for every 15-20 guests, in addition to cooking staff. Plated menus require venues with kitchen facilities and ample space.

Stand-up

Food stations, hors doeuvre receptions require a variable amount of staffing based on complexity of items, equipment needs, service requirements etc.

What to expect from Servers?

Servers do not set up tables, chairs or other large equipment. We expect linens to be in place. We require advance notification if linen will not be in place. If requested in advance, servers will put flatware on the tables, fill water glasses and put wine on tables. They will assist in setting up the buffet and they will assist guests as they approach the buffet if they have special diets. They will clear place settings and scrape/rinse/stack rentals as needed. After assisting with the buffet tear down they can be available to assist with dessert, time permitting.  Services like tableside beverage service, dishwashing, post-event floor mopping, decor removal etc, are not included in staffing estimates and are only available subject to availability and must be prearranged. Due to public health and liability issues servers can not handle food brought by guests, with the exception of cakes and similar high sugar desserts.

Are Gratuities included?

We do not auto-grat our clients. We instead charge a higher hourly rate for onsite staffing. This method ensures a reliable rate of pay for staff, better value and transparency for clients and less paperwork for admin staff. That said, if our staff exceed your expectations you are welcome to provide a cash tip to your event staff directly. This money will be distributed among all the staff onsite, at the time of the event. 

Can we book your Bar Service?

Bar and Sommelier service can be arranged through The Little Piggy, subject to availability. Bartenders are billed hourly. Travel time, mileage, overtime and late night fees apply. Bartenders require 30-60 minutes for set up and 30-60 min for tear down, in addition to service time. If you prefer to use a third party bartending vendor, you are welcome too. 

If you would like staff to serve beverages at your wedding, either at a bar or table side, bar staff can be hired.

Are Equipment Rentals included?

Tables, chairs, linens, glassware and table settings are not included in catering prices. Depending on your menu and style of service you may require specific rentals.

If you choose to procure rentals yourself, we will indicate our minimum requirements. Alternatively, we can organize rentals on your behalf—and a 20% service fee will be applied.

Is Menu Tasting available?

Menu tastings are only available for some menus and for very large events. Not all items are available for tasting. A menu tasting is designed to refine your menu choices, if needed. A $75+ fee is required. Menu tastings are not available during peak periods.
